Brookleigh - Emily King
“Brook” picked up an injury, at Badminton in 2016, which meant that he spent some time on box rest so his diet had to be adapted accordingly. He’s always been hard to keep condition on and is prone to gastric ulcers so, even when in work, needs a diet which is high in fibre and oil and low in starch. While resting, his calorie requirements were clearly reduced so he was fed Performance Balancer, Outshine high oil supplement and Fibre-Beet.
He was able to have ad lib hay and, to add interest and encourage natural foraging behaviour, Brook was given separate buckets of Alfalfa Plus Oil and soaked Fibre-Beet. Feeding Performance Balancer provides essential nutrients to support the healing process and help maintain muscle tone and top line, without unwanted starch or calories. Brookleigh spent the winter in the field and will be looking forward to coming back into work in due course. |
Classic Briolinca - Gareth Hughes
‘Briolinca’ is renowned for being a fussy eater who is prone to putting on weight easily. It was particularly difficult to get Briolinca to eat up when staying away at shows and to ensure she was getting the correct nutritional support whilst competing in International Dressage classes. Gareth Hughes’ head groom, Steph, has found that Performance Balancer is perfect for Briolinca. The volume is just the right amount that, even when she travels, she clears it up and the concentrated formula ensures that she gets the right nutritional support without the additional calories. Her stamina improved and she developed a strong round musculature.

Rembrandt Blue - Laura Renwick
Rembrandt Blue is a sharp horse who can be prone to stressy behaviour and gastric ulcers. When competing through the winter his calorie requirements are moderate so he is fed half the recommended amount of Ease & Excel top dressed with Performance Balancer to ensure that he receives the optimum balance of vitamins, minerals and quality protein to support his performance and recovery – he is out competing most weeks. This diet also works well for Blue as Laura has good grazing and, in the summer, his calorie requirements drop, although his nutritional needs increase as he is out competing more through the outdoor season. As a result, the Ease & Excel is reduced and Performance Balancer increased accordingly to ensure his nutritional needs are being met. He isn’t stressy on this low starch, low sugar diet and he continues to jump his heart out for Laura.

Kings Ginger - Mary King
‘Ginger’ is one of Mary King’s homebred horses. The six-year-old is out of Kings Temptress and by Olympic Stallion, Chilli Morning and is lucky enough to be able to live out all year round. Although the grass is really good and provides plenty of pasture, Mary supplements it with Performance Balancer to provide essential nutrients that the grass might be lacking. This is particularly important for the young horse to help develop topline muscle and build fitness. Ginger only requires four mugs a day, even when competing at Novice level, which means he can be fed in one meal after exercise. We look forward to seeing the pair progress through the levels this season.
